Milk Cooling

Milk Cooling

The quicker the milk is cooled after milking, the better the quality when it is collected.

Milk cooling accounts for about a third of power costs, so it’s important to find the most efficient cooling system for your operation. Reduce costs by choosing options that have heat recovery (usable hot water) from your cooling system.

Nind Dairy Services can help you meet the new milk cooling standards.

New milk cooling standards come into effect for all farms on 1st June 2018, and may mean that changes are required for your system. Contact the Nind Dairy Services team now for an assessment of compliance to the new standards and discuss cooling options.

Glycol chilling (snap chilling)

Chilling milk to 6°C immediately upon harvest is the most reliable method of suppressing bacterial contamination. The experts at GEA have developed the market-leading snap chilling and heat recovery systems aquaCHILL and aquaTESS.

Nind Dairy Services install aquaCHILL systems

For either retrofit or new install, aquaCHILL is the ideal booster for your cooling system. It is most efficient because it only runs when it is needed (no thermal storage) and hot water can be reclaimed for use in the shed. A 'plug and play' solution that can be moved from farm to farm.

Nind Dairy Services install aquaTESS systems

This is a thermal energy storage system that can be configured in many options and sizes - giving the best of both worlds, snap chilling and cold storage using off-peak power to maintain efficiency.

Nind Dairy Services offer Conventional Cooling solutions

The Nind Dairy Services team supply and service the full range of cooling systems including:

  • Water Chilling

  • Plate Coolers

If your current cooling regime does not meet the new milk cooling regulations Nind Dairy can recommend a secondary cooling option that may include heat recovery, giving you the added benefit of hot water as a by-product of the cooling process. Contact them now to discuss the most cost-effective solution for your dairy farm.

"We went with the GEA aquaCHILL because we were sure it was the most efficient unit out there,” says Ferdinand. “It’s a very efficient unit; at the end of milking the unit turns off, milk goes in at 4ºC, you don’t have to worry about it.

"We are getting 700 litres of hot water every milking out of the unit, so it is a massive power saving on the water heating side of it,” Ferdinand adds.

“Milk is our source of income and we need to protect it and make sure it’s getting picked up. The best insurance policy was putting in the snap chiller – it’s income protection insurance”

“As per usual, Nind is very efficient, quick - in and out - done over two days between milkings. The second day was only maybe an hour just to finish off and go over how to operate it then we were into it. There was pretty much no interruption to us, which was ideal.

“We’ve always had good service from Nind Dairy Services, so it was a no brainer to go with GEA and have Nind install it.”

“Knowing how well the aquaCHILL works and how efficient it is, I wish we had put it in 10 years ago” Running in tandem with your vat, the aquaCHILL is designed to help farmers meet cooling standards with a simple ‘plug and play’ solution that can be retrofitted to work with any system, existing or new.
